State of (Economic) Emergency
in the Marshall Islands

From Steve Clark, MV’s field co-ordinator in the Marshall  Islands - July 2008

“The government has just declared a state of emergency in all areas from fuel, electricity, food and basic life sustainment items...  We need people to pray for the Marshalls in this time of need. We serve an awesome God and we know he has everything in control.

We have cut back on electricity use by converting to propane and using a grill.  The government is looking to cut all sales of diesel and coconut oil to private users to conserve for government uses.  We need to convert over [to wind and solar energy] as soon as possible.

This is not a message of defeat but one of victory. When we have a storm that's when God shows up and provides everything we need. All is well here and the Gospel is going forward, the Kingdom is being built. We praise God that He provides all that we need! Thanks for all of your prayers and support. Be blessed and have an awesome day in Jesus!"

We urgently need to raise at least NZ$5,000 for solar-panels and equipment to keep the radio station on air and maintain essential communications.  We’re also investigating other solutions that can use the natural resources available, including wind and steam powered generators.

While these solutions will help to keep the school, radio station and essential equipment running, the wider impact across the islands will be serious as lack of fuel will affect health services, food storage and transport of essential food and medicines.

Urgent Relief  for the Philippines

The devastating Typhoon that ravaged the city of Iloilo and Panay recently caused widespread death and destruction. The Bible School in Iloilo was totally flooded and Ps Warlito along with his wife & 3 young children had to be rescued off the roof.  Sadly 2 of the students drowned and many people from the churches that relate to Ps Warlito were also killed. Some pastors were badly injured and their churches all but destroyed.

The Bible school has lost everything, including clothing, personal belongings, furniture, audio and computer equipment.
