Current time in NZ:

Arrowtown

You'd like Arrowtown, its a little bit like a village in Wales or Cornwall

Lindis Pass

This was a VERY hard day.We went from Cromwell to Omarama on SH8 through the Lindis Pass. It took us 10hrs to cover 110k. We had the wind against us all the way and at one point we were blown to a standstill.  It was one of those days when we just had to lie down on the roadside and have a rest. We went fast asleep once, so thank you for those 'protection' prayers.

Lake Tekapo

You just have to see it. From here we cycled to Geraldine through Burkes Pass. The road and wind were with us and we covered 91k in 4.5 hours. A jubilant day. Could you hear us cheering?

Kaikoura

We came into Kaikoura (the Whale watch capital) from Cheviot, some big hills but we found we were stronger and the hills were not a problem. Did we feel good. Also had some great downhill runs.

We picked up a tail wind as we left Kaikoura following the coast upto Picton. FABULOUS. We were flying along - an answer to Heather Aplin's prayer. Words can't describe how truly delightful this part of the trip was. 80k coastal ride with the wind blowing us along. We covered 157k (13th Jan)

Picton

We made it - 1085.73k (674.6 miles, but we like the big numbers in k's) in 12 days. And the best campsite so far. Up to Blenheim from Kaikoura we had that wonderful tail wind, then Blenheim to Picton yet more head winds.

Most of the roads we travelled were very straight, often disappearing into the distance, most were uphill, just a very slight incline you'd hardly notice in a car, but we certainly felt it. The scenery as you can imagine was beautiful and unspoilt, mountains and fields as far as the eye could see.

And yes we'd do it again in a heartbeat !  Lots of love, Cliff & Julie

Our friend Cliff Postings rode over 700Km from Wellington to Auckland in just  9 days from 27 December.  The proceeds from this ride  ($3,475) went towards the cost of equipping the Marshall Islands radio station (The Change) with the necessary satellite equipment.

Wellington to Auckland 2008

Bluff to Picton 2009

This time, Cliff's wife Julie joined him for the 1,085 Km ride of the South Island, which they completed in just 12 days! The proceeds from this ride ($1,830) have been donated  to the Letio Faka-Kalisiatane 93FM (UCB Pacifc partners Christian radio) in Tonga towards the cost of essential studio upgrades. See Cliff & Julie’s photos and read their trip report below ...

We had a blast on our trip, in more ways than one, and covered just over 1085km

Most of the roads were uphill, although it's hard to tell from our pics and we battled headwinds from the north.

BUT, the silver lining is that we each lost about 5kg in weight. The ride was hard, challenging and great fun, we'd both do it again in a heartbeat.
